Urgg, I just got back from ballet. My knees, ankles, and toes hurt like heck!! I could barely even walk up the stairs. xD I've been recently lectured on the fact that if I carry on like this, I'll have major arthritis when I'm older and have to get joint replacements. Oh well. If I'm gonna get old and have pain anyway, I might as well go for it all. =D The Les Sylphides rehearsal was the most brutal; I've done so many bourre'es in the last two hours, I can't see straight! (Or walk straight, for that matter.) I was en pointe in last year's Spring Gala, but this year? Man, it's painfull-ER.
Enough about my pain. I still enjoyed it; even though I am in the corps, and for most of the sections we basically do very uncomfortable poses accompanied by awkward arm movements that may be weird to do, but they look soo cool from offstage. It really is unlike any ballet I've ever danced in before. Our director says that the choreographer wanted to choreograph it so that the "many ballerinas onstage could create shapes and illusions with precise movements". Sweetness!!
Plus..... guess what day it is today? On March 4th, 1907, Les Sylphides was premired in St. Petersburg. It wasn't called Les Sylphides at the time; it was called "RĂªverie Romantique: Ballet sur la musique de Chopin", but still. =P How cool is that? Today is totally Les Sylphides Day. =D
Keep ya posted,
